I have a dream …

Like Martin Luther King Jr, I too have a dream, and it’s not dissimilar to the one he announced in at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on 28 August, 1963. My dream is that in some small way, I can help inform people about the world we all share. I have a dream that one day we will all overcome our fears of the strange and unknown. We will seek out the character in the many different colours, creeds and cultures that make Planet Earth such a wonderful place to live.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

It only takes a moment to appreciate how lucky we all are to live here, to be alive at all. The probability of your being is estimated to be one in many hundreds of trillions. But be honest: how often do you take time out of your busy days to acknowledge that fact? How thankful are you for that? Just try it now, for one moment.

Amazing, right. You’re being here is almost too ridiculous to be true. But it is as true for you as it is for every other human being on this earth. What life you are born into is out of your control, but a life of poverty and struggle is no less valuable than one of riches and mansions. Travel teaches you that. It teaches you that no matter your circumstances, someone somewhere is almost always worse or better off. But what’s amazing is the resilience of humans to cope when times are tough.

Learning how others live their precious lives through travel has been one of life’s greatest gifts to me. It’s grounded me, completely. It’s made me laugh, it’s made me cry, but above all else, it’s made me a better person.

I realise that travel is not a realistic pursuit for many. Travel is expensive. Travel can be dangerous. Travel, for some, is just not interesting. But when I travel to places where people rarely leave the small radius around them, I try my best to pass on my experiences and knowledge of far away places to them.

In founding Foraggio Photographic, I hope to extend this to anyone that has access to this blog, and the many other platforms I plan to launch products and story’s on. I’ve lived more than half my life now. I want to ensure what’s left of it is worthwhile.

I hope you enjoy the stories we’ll tell here. They won’t all be happy, but they won’t all be sad. I hope, though, that they will be new to you and that they might inspire you to learn more about the world you live in.
